It offers courses to the students in Surveying and Mapping program as well as basic courses to other related programs. The department an undergraduate Bachelor of Engineering (B.Eng.) degree, as well as a Master¡¯s degree in Surveying and Mapping Science and Technology that is recognized as one of the key disciplines of Beijing. The undergraduate program is accredited by the International Engineering Education Certification program for the first time in Beijing University of Civil Engineering and Architecture. In addition, the Geomatics Engineering program is also recognized as the Beijing Specialty Program and Beijing Brand Program, and is listed as one of the first pilot programs undertaken comprehensive undergraduate program reform. About 70 undergraduate students and 20 graduate students are admitted to the department each year.

Department of Geographical Information Science

The department has 12 faculty members, including 4 full professors, 6 associated professors and 2 lecturers, has all with a doctoral degree. Among the faculty members, there are 3 Beijing Young Cadre Teachers and 1 university-level Master Teacher. The department offers courses to students in GIS program and other related programs including Geomatics Engineering and Urban Planning. It also offers a master¡¯s degree of Cartography and Geographic Information Engineering and master¡¯s degree of the Surveying and Mapping Science and Technology. The annual enrollment is about 70 undergraduate students and 30 graduate students. In addition to the rich teaching resources, the department has also developed 1 university-level top-quality course, 1 university-level top-quality textbook, a GIS laboratory with more than 100 computers that are all equipped with GIS- related software including ArcGIS, SuperMapand GeoStar and hardware such as large plotters and so forth.

Department of Remote Sensing Science and Technology

It offers courses to students in 3 related programs: Remote Sensing Science and Technology, Geomatics Engineering, and Geographical Information System (GIS).The department offers an undergraduate and a master¡¯s degree of Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing. About 30 undergraduate students and 10 graduate students are admitted to the department each year. The department has a geomatics and remote sensing experiment center, with 25 seats of remote sensing image processing software including ENVI and Ecognition, and 40 seats of aerial triangulation software. It is also equipped with the internationally- advanced equipment like UAV, oblique air survey camera, hyper-spectral imager and so forth.

Geomatics and Remote Sensing Experimental Center

The center aims at providing laboratory support to both teaching and research activities of all departments of the school. Supported by two key disciplines, the Cartography and Geographic Information Engineering which is a key discipline of Beijing and the Geodesy and Geomatics Engineering which is a key discipline of BUCEA, the center hosts 4 instrument rooms for surveying, digital topographic surveying, control surveying and magneto-electric measurement, as well as 15 research labs including smart city, virtual reality, spectral analysis, ancient architecture surveying, indoor positioning and navigation, architecture security monitoring and radio frequency positioning. In addition, there are two large-scale practice and training sites in Jiufeng National Forest Park and Daxing Campus.

In recently years, the center has also expanded its services through acquiring GNSS CORS, MIS, calibration service and high-level and high-accuracy instruments to meet the requirements of both undergraduate and graduate teaching and better serve the needs of faculty and student¡¯s research.
