School Introduction

The School of Geomatics and Urban SpatialInformation began in 1936 as the Department ofMeasurement and Teaching, later renamed as Surveyingand Mapping Engineering in 1973, Surveying and Mapping in 1999, and the Institute of Surveying and Urban Space Information in 2006. Over the past eighty years, the School has been undergoing transformative change in student training, scientific research, services to the society and international cooperation and reputation.

As the home of the key discipline on surveying and mapping in Beijing, the school offers3 undergraduate programs, 5 master's programs, 1 doctoral talents training project and 1 postdoctoral scientific research mobile station. The School has three provincial and ministerial level scientific research bases, was ranked the ninth in the national discipline review, and shortlisted for Beijing high-tech innovation center on "future urban design ".

The school currently has 45 faculty members, of which 92% have a doctoral degree. Many faculty members have been selected by various talent programs in Beijing and at national levels due to their excellent teaching and research achievements.

The School has three undergraduate programs: Surveying and Mapping Engineering, Geographic Information Science, and Remote Sensing Science and Technology. Among these programs, the Surveying and Mapping Engineering program is a Beijing Specialty Program, and has been approved by the Ministry of Education as the one of the first pilot undergraduate programs for comprehensive reform.

The school has also undertaken a series of national and Beijing major projects, ranging from top 10 old and new buildings to precise installation of Beijing electron-positron Collider, and from satellite and aerial remote sensing to development of smart cities. The faculty has applied for more than 50 patents, won the first-place of national teaching achievements award and the second-place of the national science and technology progress awards, and received more than 20 other teaching and research awards at the provincial level.

The School has established 24 advanced laboratories, equipped with ground laser radar, various types of UAVs, mobile measurement systems and other state-of-the-art instruments, which are worth more than 80 million Chinese Yuan.

The school is the first to pilot the course and credit system and academic mentoring, with great emphasis on personalized and diversified training. Every year, our students win various national or Beijing academic competitions, have gained wide knowledge and hands-on ability, and have been welcomed by employers with top 3 employment and rates in the university.
